While most open-ocean life flocked to the western coasts of Datura, some went the opposite direction and made their home in East Gemstar. The Torpnaut is an example of such an organism. Taking advantage of the virtually defenseless Revofrondo descendants of West Gemstar Temperate Coast, it is- as of now- the sole predator of Gemstar's seas. Like its cousin, the Nautoreap, it has developed color vision- and the males possess brilliantly colored shells to attract mates. However, for the most part, it is completely different. Its coiled shell is now straight- like that of its distant ancestor, the Allthocone. This makes it much more hydrodynamic and allows it to jet through the water with great speed. However, unlike the Allthocone, which was completely blind to where it was going, two of the Torpnaut's eyes now face backward, allowing it to see behind itself, preventing it from bumping into obstacles in the shallower water. These eyes aren't as advanced as its primary eyes. However, they are still effective at detecting obstacles and prey. When it finds prey, it will stop jetting forwards and stop. It will descend on its prey and tear it apart, moving the chunks of flesh into its mouth with its tentacles. However, it consumes the Revofrondo less often, as it can still defend itself against the Torpnaut. As mentioned earlier, males will attract females with their bright colors. However, unlike the Nautoreap, which lays its eggs into patches of Reeferns, the Torpnaut will kill multiple prey items and form a pile of carcasses. The female will then lay her eggs into the carcass pile. The male will then leave the female to guard the pile from raiding Torpnauts. Females rarely survive protecting their eggs, as many will die from starvation by the times the eggs hatch. When the eggs hatch, the young will feast on the carcasses- and potentially the corpse of their dead mother, before going off and starting to consume Revofrondo descendants. Due to their small size, young Torpnauts will tear chunks of flesh off of Revofrondo descendants instead of fully killing them. They will also scavenge.
