As time passed, the population of torpnauts started to become too great for West Gemstar Temperate Coast to support, forcing some to leave or starve to death. Out in the open ocean, there wasn't a bounty of undefended organisms to eat, instead, the torpnaut had to work for their food. Their conical shells and jet propulsion made them effective pursuit predators, but they still faced some major setbacks. They were incapable of tight turns and had trouble keeping up with faster prey. This was only worsened by their brightly-colored shells. Because of this, they had to adapt. Their siphons have became two-sided, allowing them to move both forwards and backwards. They also are capable of perpetually shooting themselves forwards by rippling the muscles in the propulsion tube, perpetually trapping water in pockets and shooting them out the other end- somewhat similar to how an esophagus pushes food into the stomach. In order to make them more maneuverable, four of their six tentacles have become two fin-like rudders, with the two top and two bottom tentacles fusing together to form the rudders. The remaining tentacles are used to grab and tear apart their prey. They typically hunt by chasing down and ramming prey with their shells, dazing the prey. While the prey is dazed, they turn around and grab their prey with their tentacles, killing larger prey and stuffing smaller prey into their mouths. In the tropical sea, they will hunt Pascovisus by dropping down on them- shell first- aiming to impale them with their shell. Most of the time, the will only daze the Pascovisus, or badly wound it. However, occasionally, this works. Courtship is similar to its ancestor. However, instead of forming carcass piles, they will lay their eggs into the gills of the Waveskimmer. The female will protect her eggs, killing and eating any small or slow prey item that comes near. This allows her to survive while she is guarding her eggs. Females will primarily feed on the rejerfloatrus, as they are slow and undefended.
