The Spiky Mushrub has split from its ancestor and has descended from the mountains into border between North Datura's central desert and temperate woodland. It has adapted to the drier climate. Its mushroom-like cap has grown taller and porous to store water. In order to keep its water from evaporating, the porous flesh is covered by a thick layer of leathery skin, which is also covered in photosynthesizing pigments. The base of the cap is not porous, and instead, like its ancestor, is used to produce and release its spores. It has developed spikes derived from its ancestors hairs to keep it from being eaten by herbivores.
