As the end-prevailnoffian mass extinction event killed any aquatic flora not living near the coast, the Abacaba Ocean was ripe for something to evolve there. So the Wavebreakers, already great at living in the coasts, decided to leave the soil behind them and become mobile. The Buoyshroom has a large "bulb" on the bottom of there bulb that is very hollow and full of air. If it wants to go down, it will empty out some of the air by opening up skin-folds around its body to sink. The opposite occurs when it wants to go up, it will take air from the surrounding water. Thus, the Buoyshroom is able to move float and down. However, the Buoyshroom isn't in the soil, so it can't take nutrients from the soil. Instead, it filter feeds plankton to take the necessary nutrients it needs to survive with tiny holes around the shell with microscopic tentacles that grasp and pull in plankton.
