As most new life proliferated in the deeper waters of North Datura Temperate Coast, sinking further into the sea, some did just the opposite- traveling closer- and even onto the land. Already well-equipped to survive outside of water, the Waveberry grows within the intertidal zone and beaches of North Datura's western temperate beaches. It has developed sturdy-branching roots in order to provide a greater holdfast and absorb nutrients from the soil. Already salt-tolerant, the Waveberry can grow unhindered on the beach and coast. It now towers over the competition, and its dense disc growth shade out any plant within its immediate vicinity. Rising from the center of its mass of discs is a tall, flexible stalk that ends in a knob. On this knob, hollow 'berries' form that is filled with spores. When a strong breeze shakes the stalk, mature fruits fall off. With nothing to eat these fruits, they simply decay and release their many spores, which can be carried by both wind and water. Many spores lost to the depths of the sea or the barren interior of Datura. Others are consumed by filter feeders. The few remaining spores go on to grow into new Waveberries.
