Size: .75 cm tall
Diet: Photosynthesis, Detritivore
Reproduction: Asexual and Sexual Spores
After the mass extinction, Most of the photosynthetic organisms bounced up pretty well for themselves compared to the consumers. This is probably because its source of food, AKA sunlight, didn't disappear. However, Reeferns survived better than most, as they were also Detritivores. Considering the vast vast majority of multicellular life was now dead, they had a rich amount of dead particles to consume. Therefore, Reeferns exploded into all kinds of different variations.
Violet Reeferns are probably the most common Reefernerans to come out of the Reeferns. However, as they are one of the first, they are probably one of the most unchanged compared to all the others. They really only have two differences. One, obviously, is that they are now purple, from large amounts of Bacteriorhodopsin in them. The other is their form of reproduction. Reeferns have only one way of reproduction: asexual spores. However, that has a large number of problems (Speed of evolution, genetic diseases, among others.) So, while they still have that if necessary, their spores now have an added function. Violet Reeferns have large amounts of microscopic "eggs" that look like tiny zits. If a spore comes near another Reefern, they will go near the eggs and die. The Violet Reeferns take the DNA from the spores and combine them with there eggs, which will produce a spore that has genes from both of the Reeferns. If a spore never touches any Violet Reefern, then they will carry out as normal. If they touch more then one Violet Reefern, they will have the combined genetic material of the how-many that it passes by.
