Ancestors and Descendants
Ancestor: Shorejaw
Descendants: Shorecrawler Slithernabber

Habitat: Coasts of Northwestern North Gemstar

Shorenabbers are descended from a small population of Shorejaw that managed to cross the Northern Datura-Gemstar straight. They are much smaller than their ancestors, usually growing to a length of forty five centimeters at most, as prey is less common. They have somewhat fused their top two and bottom two mandibles into a semblance of jaws to have greater bite strength in exchange for gape and manipulative capabilities. Their side mandibles however have become elongate and can dart forward to grab prey with their spikes, which are immobile and fused to the mandible itself for stability. They usually lurk on the sand just out of reach of the water, diving in with extended mandibles to snatch passing organisms, or occasionally tackling the blind Squattuck. Their skin is thickened on most of their body to minimize water loss, but the underside of their head remains permeable, allowing them to simply submerge their head to breath while also waiting for prey.
