Taxonomy
Ancestors and Descendants
Ancestor: Shellsneak

Creator: Bufforpington

Habitat: Datura Tropical Sea

Size: 1 m Wide

Diet: Photosynthesis

Reproduction: Sexual, Swimming Gametes

As the Probovisus began to feed on the Shellsneak, some evolved a way to protect themselves from the long snout of the Probovisus. The Shelljar has developed a tough 'lid' that can be retracted against the top of the shell, closing off access to its leaves. This lid is buoyant, and will typically remain suspended in the water, while the photosynthetic bulbs poke out from the gap between the lid's tether and the wall of the shell. When threatened by a Probovisus, the Shelljar will retract its photosynthesizing bulbs into its shell and close the lid, forbidding access to its bulbs. It reproduces by producing gametes and releasing them into the water en masse. The plant's reproductive organs line the base of the lid's tether, at the bottom of its shell.
