At least one species of Helmsurfer has evolved a rather novel technique of gaining food. By stealing chloroplasts from its food, it takes on an orange tone, and can produce sunlight from photosynthesis. It's fins are stretched out rather wide, to allow for more sunlight to hit them. As a result, they are usually huddled around the surface, in massive rafts. Their movement is rather slow during the day, as they absorb sunlight to allow for photosynthesis, and stay near the surface, but at night, they move in vast droves, feeding off of waveskimmers and other such plants.
