Ancestor: False Crinoid

While most of the False Crinoids have taken up filter-feeding, one species has taken up a unique feeding strategy. By turning the end of its proboscis into a barbed, fake jaw, one species has managed to start preying on free-swimming animals. However, due to their poor eyesight, they rely mainly on detecting passing shadows, and ambushing said shadow, in hopes of snagging prey. They ensnare their desired food item, and clasp onto it with its proboscis, over the course of a few hours, slowly dissolving it with its own venom, which it sequesters from symbiotic algae. After said prey item is dead, it sucks out the liquefied remains. The Graboids were born.
