The diamondleaf split from its ancestor. They have re-developed their vascular system and thrive in shallow coasts. This allows their spore-bulbs to stand out of the water, enabling them to release their spores into the air, which is more effective than releasing their spores in the water. They are commonly found within the intertidal zone, where they are commonly in contact with water. This is crucial because they lack a cuticle, and will dry out if not exposed to moisture for a prolonged amount of time. They release their spores at low tide. This ensures that the spore-bulbs are exposed to air, allowing them to release their airborne spores.
