Competition between filter-feeders in the North Datura Temperate Coast has reached its breaking point, and some species are spreading away from the coast in hopes of finding areas that are not overpopulated by various filter-feeding false clam descendants. They have spread to the deepest edge of the continental shelf, and have moved into the twilight slope, which is were they are most common. They can now be seen sporadically dotting the walls of the slope, slowly crawling around on their many pseudobyssus, which now act more like anchoring legs rather than roots. Their proboscis has become distendable, allowing it to gulp up more water, and in turn, more plankton and marine snow. However, predators still lurk in these depths. Fortunately, their spiky shell makes an effective defense. They are capable of retracting their proboscis and stalk into their shell, while crawling away on their pseudobyssus.
