Ancestors and Descendants
Ancestor: Chasobenthus

A descendent of the Chasobenthus, this has delved even deeper into the dark waters near the South Pole, where it dwarfs all around it at a total of 1m long. Silent in its isolation, this solitude has allowed it to develop further specialisations as a bottom feeder, using the ever-present marine snow, food particles and carrion raining from above to sustain it's morbid harvest. Sexual dimorphism is pronounced, with the males only being 0.5m long as an average female. Fighting often ensues between males over females, with the fin-like spike jaws being larger and stronger in adult males than other individuals. It's population is estimated at over 5 million, all sifting sedately through the near-anoxic silts of the deep oceans.
