The Buoyvase has split from its ancestor. They now live in all tropical and temperate marine biomes. because of competition between other sessile filter-feeders, it has developed a large air pocket in its vase that allows it to float on the ocean's surface, with its feeding tentacles hanging down, sieving plankton and bits of floating detritus. They are capable of some movement, using their tentacles to paddle through the water. However, this is very inefficient and hardly has any effect. They have grown larger to discourage predators from eating it. However, it still relies on its shell for protection against larger predators. Because they are often times very far from others of their kind, it is hard to find a mate. In order to compensate for this, they have become hermaphrodites, allowing for them to mate with any buoyvase they come across.
